A Personal Update from Alison

“As many of you know, I’ve been juggling my full-time role at Ruby’s Fund alongside caring for Ruby around the clock. Since she turned 18, a lot has changed in our world. The transition into adulthood hasn’t been easy, it’s still a work in progress, but we’re hopeful things will begin to settle over the next month or two.

Recently, Ruby also received a new diagnosis of Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome. As I’ve often said over the years, a diagnosis doesn’t define our children. Ruby is still Ruby, the brightest, sassiest young lady, and the greatest privilege of my life.

After 16 years of leading Ruby’s Fund, I’ve realised it’s time for me to practise what I’ve always preached: to have a happy, well child, you must also take care of yourself. So, I’ll be taking a short break from my role to focus on Ruby, her health, and this next chapter in her journey into adulthood.

In the meantime, the Board of Trustees will ensure the centre, services, and everything else continue to run smoothly, and they’ll soon introduce an interim CEO to you all.

It’s been a tough decision, but one made with love and care. I’ve learned that I’m not Wonder Woman, and right now, I can only do one thing well, and that’s being there for Ruby.

Thank you all for your understanding, kindness, and continued support.”

A message from our Chairman

“After 16 years of dedicated service in founding and leading Ruby’s Fund, Alison has taken the decision to step away for a period of leave to focus on Ruby’s health and her family’s immediate needs.

The Board of Trustees would like to thank Alison for her long commitment to establishing the charity, and we wish her strength and clarity as she takes the time she needs away from Ruby’s to balance home and work commitments.

To ensure stability and continued support for the families who rely on our services, the Trustees have appointed Peter Lacelles as Interim CEO.

Peter brings extensive senior leadership experience and a proven track record of guiding teams through periods of change. We are grateful for his willingness to step in and provide steady hands at this important moment.

Ruby’s Fund is currently closed while the final installation stage of our new lift is completed. We are incredibly grateful for your patience throughout this essential work and look forward to welcoming families back when we reopen in early December. With Peter’s leadership and the Board’s oversight, we remain committed to ensuring that all services resume safely and smoothly once the centre reopens.

Thank you for your ongoing kindness, trust and support.”
