After months of planning and preparation, Ruby’s team hosted a wonderful Winter Walk with Congleton Mayor Kay Wesley on Tuesday, 18th February 2025, at Astbury Mere Country Park. The event was a resounding success, filled with fun, community spirit, and sensory activities designed to engage attendees of all ages.
.
The team worked tirelessly to create an immersive experience, setting up sensory activity stations all around the lake. These included tough trays, giant balloons, and various interactive crafts. Indoors, in the hall, children and adults alike had the opportunity to make their very own mayoral chains! The event drew an impressive crowd, with over 40 people braving the chilly weather to take part in the festivities. Although the sun shone, everyone was well wrapped up to stay warm while enjoying the activities.
A highlight of the day was Ruby’s mobile sensory bus, which was open for visitors to explore. It was fantastic to see so many people engaging with our sensory initiatives and learning more about the services we provide.
.
The event was not only a fun-filled day for families but also a crucial fundraising opportunity for Ruby’s. Thanks to the generosity of attendees, we managed to raise over £500 through donations! Every penny will go towards supporting our work and ensuring that we can continue to provide valuable sensory experiences for those who need them.
A massive thank you to Becca, Kate & Izzy and the Ruby’s team and volunteers for making this event possible. We also extend our gratitude to Matt and the Astbury Mere Trust for their support, and of course, to everyone who came along to take part!
