I am often asked what is Ruby’s or what do you do at Ruby’s? You’d think that this would be quite a simple question to answer, but it isn’t, and this is because Ruby’s means different things to different people.
I set Ruby’s up after having Ruby and finding that there was no support for Ruby or families like us in our area. Since starting Ruby’s way back in 2008 I have developed the charity based on needs of children and young people with SEND and their families.
To date we have a centre in Congleton, outreach sessions across Cheshire East and of course our mobile sensory bus. We run a busy timetable of sessions and activities and work with external room hirers and organisations who deliver sessions at our centre.
When asked about what Ruby’s does, I tend to tailor my reply on what support the person is looking for. A new team member recently told me before starting they didn’t realise how massive Ruby’s is and how much we do! I’m very aware of this and that telling a new family seeking support everything we offer can be overwhelming.
For the past year we have been working hard on how we communicate what we do at Ruby’s. We are proud to share our new website which has been months in the making simply because we do so much! There are 3 films on the website which show people what Ruby’s is and what Ruby’s means to our families.
I am proud of what we have achieved here at Ruby’s. I hope you are too.
