CASE STUDY

Short break, long-term friends.

T is articulate, kind, and very creative. He finds school work easy and loves learning but the social aspect of school can often be tricky due to his sensory difficulties. T told us that he sometimes feels sad and lonely at school especially at playtimes.

Our short break staff looked carefully at the interests and needs of the children attending the Short Break group and planned activities and a routine which would feel safe and familiar but also interesting and stimulating.

T made meaningful connections from his first group which developed over the sessions. As the weeks went by he built healthy friendships over lots of Lego, crafts, puzzles, team games and an ice cream sundae!

We helped him to navigate his emotions and provided plenty of opportunity for him to get the sensory input he needed to be regulated and be his wonderful authentic self!

As the sessions drew to a close for T he told us that he had made friends, felt safe and felt supported.

He still hangs out with those friends he made at the Short Breaks group, and so does his mum!
