As Café Team Leader, you’ll ensure the café, soft play, and sensory garden run smoothly, offering high-quality food and exceptional service. This role is key to creating a safe, friendly environment where families feel supported and volunteers thrive.

What you’ll be doing

  • Manage the café team and oversee day-to-day operations of the café, soft play, and garden areas.
  • Prepare and serve food orders to a high standard, ensuring excellent customer service.
  • Supervise café staff, students, and volunteers, including inductions, appraisals, and training.
  • Maintain hygiene standards and ensure compliance with food safety regulations (aiming for a 5-star rating).
  • Handle stock control, ordering, and cash management.
  • Support fundraising events and promote café services through social media and displays.
  • Ensure health and safety checks, fire alarm tests, and equipment maintenance are completed.
  • Work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator to provide meaningful volunteer placements.

Time commitment
Up to 37.5 hours per week
Mainly Monday–Friday, with occasional weekends and evening events.

Salary
Up to £15 per hour
Permanent contract with a 6-month probation period.

Who we’re looking for

  • Professional, reliable, and proactive with strong leadership skills.
  • Experienced in café or hospitality management (preferred).
  • Able to prepare and cook meals and snacks to a high standard.
  • Highly organised with excellent time management.
  • Approachable and supportive to staff, volunteers, and centre users.
  • Committed to safeguarding and willing to complete required training.
  • Food hygiene qualification (preferred).
