Macclesfield Wheelies is a club for people of all ages with physical disabilities. It was founded in 2001 by Mike Pomfret, who was tetraplegic following a car accident. Mike wanted to set up a club where disabled people could meet up and participate in various sports. Over the years, the club has grown and is now a registered charity serving people in Macclesfield and surrounding areas. It runs an full activity programme covering most Saturdays of the year. Indoor activities include various wheelchair games, archery, shooting, and skiing. Outdoor activities include hand-cycling, sailing, and trips out to attractions. The highlight for most Wheelies members is a week-long outdoor activity holiday at the Calvert Trust in Keswick. Wheelies is funded by grants and fund raising activities organised by club members and their families
