1 VOICE - COMMUNICATING TOGETHER is a registered charity offering a network of support and information for children, young people and families using communication aids. Each year 1 Voice holds a Family Weekend Conference and a Family Network Day, placing particular importance on the involvement of adult role models. 1 Voice runs a comprehensive website with an active email support group. There are regional branches in South East, North East, Cheshire & Merseyside, Lakes & Bay, West Midlands, and West Yorks which run events throughout the year. More branches are planned.
This toolkit aims to support disabled people and carers, as well as their families and advisers, who are encountering difficulties with the statutory agencies in relation to the provision of health, social care and education support services. This toolkit aims to unpick these problems and to develop effective strategies for resolving them.
Latest statistics state that 17% of all children living in Newcastle-Under-Lyme and 25% of all children living in Stoke-On-Trent reside in low income families. It is widely acknowledged that a childhood spent in poverty adversely impacts education, occupation, income and ill health.
