Carers short breaks initiative

Jun 9, 2022 | Articles

We are delighted to share with you that we are now able to refer registered Parent Carers into Carefree!

Eligibility criteria includes:
To qualify for a break, a carer must be:
● Aged 18 or over
● A full-time unpaid carer (30+ hours per week)
● Able to arrange interim care
● Able to pay for extras (admin fee £25, transport, food, travel insurance etc.)

Carers can take one break a year at a hotel or holiday cottage of their choice at a time convenient to them. The short breaks initiative is specifically designed to give carers some time away from their caring responsibilities. Carers are welcome to take a companion with them but not the person they care for. If a carer want to travel alone, that’s fine too. Hotel breaks are usually 2/3 nights in a Twin or Double room and Breakfast is included.

There is no charge for the accommodation, but carers are responsible for all other costs (transport, food, travel insurance, pets etc.) and there’s a £25 admin fee that helps with the cost of operating the charity. This can be covered by the carer directly at the point of booking a break or by arrangement with your organisation or other carer break funds that can help.
